The purpose of the Community Development Advisory Committee is to allocate CDBG and HOME Investment Partnership Act Funds in such a manner that maximum feasible priority is given to activities which will meet the overall community needs, primarily those needs of low and moderate income families, minorities, elderly, disabled and/or aid in the prevention of slum and blighted areas. Also, to serve in an advisory role in the planning, implementing, and assessing of the Community Development Program, and to ensure continuity of the involvement of citizens throughout all stages of the Community Development Program. The Community Development Advisory Committee is authorized to review and recommend to the Board of Directors projects to be considered for Community Development Block Grant Funding; to review and assess Community Development Program performance; to prepare and recommend a Citizen Participation Plan; to hold meetings and workshops to disseminate information to citizens and to receive views and opinions and relate these to the setting of priorities for the City. The Board was created and required by Section 570.303 of the Community Development Block Grant Program, U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Community Development Advisory Committee consists of seven members, appointed by the Board of Directors. The committee shall contain substantial representation of low and moderate income families, members of minority groups, the elderly, the handicapped, the business community and civic groups. Initially four members will serve two-year terms and three will serve three-year terms, thereafter all terms will be three years or until the expiration of the Community Development Program. The committee meets on call and meetings are held in the Planning Department Conference Room of the City Offices, 623 Garrison Avenue.
