The Health Unit Advisory Committee is required by the Federal Government in order to receive Federal funding for family planning services. Objectives of the committee are to give active support to health unit programs, to inform the community of services offered by the Health Unit, to determine needs and set goals for the Health Unit, and others.

The Health Unit Advisory Committee is composed of four persons appointed by the Board of Directors of the City of Fort Smith and three persons appointed by Sebastian County. After initial staggered terms, committee members will serve two-year terms. The committee meets on call.
