The provisions of Fort Smith's Property Maintenance Code shall apply to all existing residential and nonresidential structures as well as fences and accessory structures and all existing premises and constitute minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from the elements, life safety, safety from fire and other hazards, and for safe and sanitary maintenance; the responsibility of owners, operators and occupants and the occupancy of existing structures and premises.

Key elements addressed by the Property Maintenance Code include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exterior Structure Maintenance
  • Interior Structure Maintenance
  • Handrails and Guardrails
  • Extermination of Infestations
  • Lighting and Illumination Requirements
  • Ventilation Requirements
  • Occupancy Limitations
  • Plumbing Systems and Fixtures
  • Heating Requirements
  • Mechanical Equipment
  • Electrical Facilities
  • Fire Protection Requirements
