The City Clerk's office maintains all official records of the city; responds to citizen requests; receives candidate and initiative petitions and coordinates city elections; coordinates the agenda process for the Board of Directors meetings and records the proceedings of said meetings; provides assistance to departments in researching state laws; provides guidance to departments in drafting of resolutions and ordinances; codifies and publishes city ordinances; oversees operation of the city's cable access channel to keep citizens informed on local government services and community events; manages records of cemetery deeds and burials at Oak Cemetery; performs other duties/responsibilities as directed by the City Administrator, Mayor and Board of Directors. The primary purpose of this department is to deliver quality essential services in a cost effective, timely manner; and help make City government more accessible by keeping citizens better informed of the effectiveness of City services.

Sherri Gard, City Clerk

Sherri Gard has been employed in the Fort Smith City Clerk's office since joining the City in 1996 serving as Assistant City Clerk until appointed as City Clerk by the Fort Smith Board of Directors in December 2010. She is a native of Muldrow, OK and a graduate of Muldrow High School. She is a member of the Arkansas City Clerks, Recorders and Treasurers Association (ACCRTA) and International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). Sherri has earned the designations of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) as well as Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) by IIMC and Certified Arkansas Municipal Clerk (CAMC) by ACCRTA. Sherri spends most of her leisure time with her husband, children and thirteen (13) grandchildren.

Brittney Bottoms, Assistant City Clerk

Brittney Bottoms has been employed with the City of Fort Smith since 2018 and became the Assistant City Clerk in 2021. She resides in Alma, Arkansas, and was a graduate of Charleston High School. She attended the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith where she played college basketball and received her Associates of Arts degree in the fall of 2013. Brittney spends her leisure time going to the lake and playing recreational sports with her husband and three children.

Amber Jones, Production Assistant

Amber Jones has been employed with the Fort Smith City Clerk's office since joining the City in 2007. She currently resides in Fort Smith and was the valedictorian of the Pleasant View High School graduating class of 2004. She attended the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, where she received an Academic Excellence Award in Computer Aided Drafting and Design and the Judith Ann Wrappe Art Award. She received her Associates of Applied Sciences - Computer Aided Drafting and Design degree in the spring of 2007. In her spare time, Amber enjoys drawing and other creative pursuits.
