Many projects, activities, and events taking place in Fort Smith require a permit. Review the list below and follow the required steps to apply for a permit if necessary.

Fill and Grading Permit

Download the Fill and Grading Permit and submit to the Engineering Department by emailing engineering@fortsmithar.gov.

Floodplain Development Permit

Download the Floodplain Development Permit and submit to the Engineering Department by emailing engineering@fortsmithar.gov.

Garage or Yard Sale Permit

All people who hold a garage sale must obtain a permit before the day of the sale. No fee will be required for the permit. To obtain a garage sale permit, please complete the Google form below. After you have completed and submitted the application, you will receive an e-mail with a link to your permit. Please print the permit and post it on the property where the garage sale will take place and ensure it is visible from the street.

Requirements for Recreational Fire

General open burning is prohibited by ordinance within the City of Fort Smith. However, the use of outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, chimneys, or other fire structures used for recreational purposes is allowed under certain provisions. View the list of requirements below.

Special Event Permits

Special events are overseen by the Fort Smith Police Department. Download a special event permit and return to the FSPD Events Coordinator at least 45 days prior to the first day of the event.
