Citizens can ask for public records from the City of Fort Smith by making a FOIA request. Public records include any writings or recordings by public employees (there are some exceptions).

To request a public record, please use our records request portal at www.fortsmithar.gov/foia. The Deputy City Administrator handles all FOIA requests.

What is FOIA?

  • FOIA stands for the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act
  • The law gives Arkansans access to public records and public meetings
  • Citizens may request records from Arkansas government entities, and records include anything maintained by public employees within the scope of their employment
