Community Development Block Grant 

There are several resources available for housing assistance within the City of Fort Smith. Through HUD's Community Development Block Grant program, the City offers a Housing Assistance Program for income qualified homeowners who lived within the city limits of Fort Smith. Projects are based upon bringing homes in compliance with current code standards in regards to Health and Safety issues.  Down Payment Assistance

The Crawford-Sebastian Homeownership Center offers a variety of programs to help with down payment and closing costs for both first time and repeat home buyers. Assistance includes a variety of grants and are offered to low to moderate income individuals and families. All assistance programs require that the buyer occupies the home being purchased as their primary residence and that they utilize an approved lender. Clients must attend a C-SCDC Homebuyer Education class and participate in one-on-one budget counseling. New Construction

C-SCDC provides funding for new homes in the city limits of Fort Smith for income qualified families and individuals. A HOME Subsidy of up to $25,000, may be available to clients based on eligibility.  For more information, call Crawford Sebastian Community Development Council (CSCDC) at 479-785-2303. 

Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers

Section 8 is a rental assistance program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It is designed to assist very low-income families with the ability to rent apartments, condominiums or homes in the private market.

The Fort Smith Housing Authority (FSHA) issues Housing Choice Vouchers (voucher) to families that meet income guidelines established by HUD. Utilizing their voucher, families pay approximately 30% to 40% of their adjusted income towards rent and utilities and FSHA pays the difference.
