The Housing Assistance program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The program is set aside for single-family homes occupied by low income Fort Smith Residents. All projects are based upon bringing homes in compliance with current code standards in regards to Health and Safety issues.

What are the qualifications for the program?
You must be the Home Owner-Occupant, live within the city limits of Fort Smith, your total family income is consistent with the current Department of Housing and Urban Annual Low Income Schedule.
Is there a timeline each year for when applications are accepted?
No. The program runs all year as long as there are sufficient funds available.
What do I need to turn in with my application?
Income Documents for anyone 18 years of age and older living in the house, Copy of your Warranty Deed, and Property Tax Receipt.
I am currently paying a Mortgage on my house, but the house is in my name. Am I still eligible?
Yes. Eligibility will not be discontinued as long as you can provide documentation stating the house is in your name.
Is there a certain standard for projects to be eligible for this program? For example Interior/Exterior Painting, Siding, Installing gutters etc.?
The intent for all accepted projects is to bring Health and Safety concerns in align with the current State Housing Code Standards.
