The Fire Prevention Division works together with businesses and the community to provide the standard of life safety expected by those who visit, work and live in Fort Smith. The Fire Prevention Division includes the areas of fire inspection, public fire education and community affairs. The employees of this Division use the Uniform Fire and Life Safety Codes, along with Arkansas Fire Prevention Code and City Ordinances, as a guide to provide fire and life safety information to the general public. These codes provides fire and life safety standards for buildings, helping to protect people and property from the hazards of fire, explosion or dangerous conditions in new and existing buildings and ensure firefighter and emergency responder safety during emergency operations.
Instructions for obtaining a Permit or License
While the Fire Prevention Division will always make every effort to provide accurate and complete instructions, we are not always the sole agency involved in the process. Other City or State agencies may be involved and their internal procedures could change without notice.
