Fort Smith Mayor

Fort Smith's Mayor is George B. McGill, who McGillwas elected in 2018. The Mayor presides over the City's Board of Directors and is the formal official for City ceremonies and events. Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is an eight-member group of officials led by the Mayor. Board members are elected by the citizens of Fort Smith and hold regular meetings to discuss city laws, policies, and happenings. City Administrator

Carl Geffken HeadshotFort Smith's City Administrator is Carl Geffken, who has held the position since 2016. The City Administrator acts as the municipality’s Chief Executive Officer and oversees over 1,000 employees and a budget of nearly $300 million. Since his appointment, Mr. Geffken has streamlined the City’s budget, increased infrastructure improvements, and improved the staff’s productivity and efficiency.
