The Fixed Route System consists of seven (7) core routes as shown on the fixed route map.
How to Use the System
Determine your location on the map. Look for the scheduled posted time point of the bus stop just before your location along the route. Allow enough time to assure the bus has not passed your stop. The Fort Smith Transit Department uses a special clock that is synchronized by satellite. Drivers routinely verify their time settings through the dispatch office. To ensure your time is compatible with the bus schedules, call the office at the number listed below.
Stand at a marked bus stop sign. The driver will pick up passengers only at designated bus stops. While boarding, place the correct fare, ticket, or voucher in the farebox and inform the driver of your requested destination, and then be seated. Please note the seats marked “priority” should be reserved for passengers with limited walking capabilities. Children seven (7) years of age or younger must be accompanied by someone twelve (12) years of age or older.
All Fort Smith Transit (FST) buses are lift-equipped for mobility devices (i.e. wheelchairs, etc.) and contain the appropriate restraint devices to assure safety. Priority seating is marked for passengers with limited walking capabilities. Guide animals are permitted on FST buses. If you have a special need please advise your driver. See the limitations section for further information regarding boarding. Some disabled persons may be eligible for paratransit service. Call the office for an application and information.
When desiring assistance on the fixed route system, simply call the transit office and notify the scheduler or dispatcher of your traveling intentions. Transit staff will gladly assist you. If you need special assistance in learning the fixed routes, the staff will ensure that transit drivers are looking for you specifically at your pickup destination.
